Actually there's a splendid woman who's always getting on as I get off and who I can hear bellowing 'Right, if everyone just moves down abit and you, madam, shuffle to your left and you, sir, just...' as I stagger up the platform.

One day I will seek her out properly hug her in gratitude for displaying such straightforward sense at an ungodly hour of the morning. Quite brightens my day she does.

Embroidered? Like with needle and thread? Wow, now I'm impressed. While I never put quotes on anything, those I saw in my teenage years were always made in black ink - preferrably on bleached jeans.

I find that the older I get, the less patience I have with stupid behaviour. If someone stands smack in front of the door when I get off the tube, they're going to get the Lòók.

If that doesn't help, I barge straight into the person and then push them aside with my elbow in their ribs.

Whatever happened to common sense these days?

I had a friend who had a bookbag that she covered with quotes written in white-out. I'll never forget it. I hope you find your cutoffs.

I feel much the same way about buses, Phil. Although I am less keen after seventeen months of hauling a pushchair on and off them.

I strongly recommend that you do not use the Moscow Metro, October 12. Although I hear that in Tokyo they employ people solely to stand there and push people onto the carriages to ensure that as many are packed on as possible, so it's not the worst place to be for people who need to avoid crushes.

Glad to see the fireservice os so boradminded where you come from Johnny. I'm still seeing a _pink_ building.

I'm not seeing your link though. Clearly Wordpress agrees with my colour perception.

You are so right about that. I was wondering who they reminded me of. I had a vaugue thought it might be John Lydon...

*briefly wrestles with the idea of trying to figure out how to put links neatly into a post and then decides it's a bit too late for that...*

One of the reasons I enjoy my commute these days is that it is overground and I can see outside and sky sometimes (though more often than not it's dull grey and damp rather than pure blue with fluffy clouds). Getting on and off at terminal stations does also mean I get a seat on the way to work pretty much all the time and I don't have to worry about sitting in the middle of a carriage, next to the window.

Of course the public transport utopia that I live in only works when the blasted train actually turns up.
